It's my favourite Final Fantasy, one of my most beloved game, and I wanted to talk about it in more depth than usual. Then I remembered an old "article" published in a French fan-site I read at the time. So I wanted to translat it and share it with y'all. I had a bunch of stuff myself, and cut really little to it. The stuffs I had are all my own opinions on the subject, and I can obviously be wrong with a lot of them. So I'll put all of those ideas in italics for you to be able to recognize them. I'm not a native speaker, so I hope I did things correctly and that you'll all be able to understand me and appreciate all this as much as I did. A thing which havent been accepted or understood by everyone. Its obvious that the main theme of the game is death, its acceptance, and the ways beings founded to bear the existential dreads it causes. To understand this better we will rapidly explores, as exemples, some of the main characters and their significance regarding this idea. The two most important ones to all that are: Bibi, who represent the questionings. The ones about the meaning of life, death, and their «fairness » as concepts. He is, in a way, the embodiment of those aforementioned dreads. The other characters mostly represent the means found to endure them, to create sense out of the epheramility of life. And Zidane, who is the paragon of life. He loves life, want to enjoy it at the fullest, every second of it, and find comfort in the relationships and bounds he forms with others. Because at the end of the day, we are NOT alone, and we should try to help and ease our peers, any of them, because of our shared « human » condition, because of those shared suffering. He mostly serves as a catalyst to the rest of the cast to, like him, forget about their fears, insecurity, and existential dreads. (He obviously has his own fears and flaws, as well as his interesting characater development, but he mostly remain what I presented, and for the sake of this post I wont explore those. Then, we have Steiner. He totally forgets himself as an individual and dedicates his whole life to others. To what he wants to understand as a higher purpose than life itself. He is a soldier, and his servitude give meaning to his life and death. Quina, is, in my opinion, the representation of a life dedicated to any “sinful” behavior. We could swap her passion for gluttony to any other (non-harmful to others) sin, lust, greed (arguably) or sloth, without altering her significance to the overall theme of the game. Its important to note that it is presented as, mostly, a totally legitimate way of life, because why stigmatize those whom found a way to bear life if they didnt harm anyone (“I do what I want! You have problem! ”. Amarant would kinda be the opposite of Quina in this regard, he dedicated his life to "sins" in an harmful way, particularly pride, wrath and envy (over Zidane's ways. Kuja will fall to the roots of Ifa, letting our protagonist to the verge of death. Its at this moment that they will be confronted to their own mortality, to their deepest fears, and so will appear Necron. The last boss will then produce a speech of an exemplary tact and finesse. But Zidane and his friends cannot lose now, not after all they've been through. The ensuing confrontation is much more significant through its symbolism than through the idea of fighting a “real” antagonist. The heroes now have nothing left to loose and need to overcome their most primal fear, death. An obvious symbolization of the real, eternal, and daily fight we all face. Contrary to what some have seen fit to assert, the presence of Necron as last boss is ESSENTIAL to the stakes of the narration, which after addressed many philosophical themes needed to end by a symbolical victory against the fear of death. Necron concludes his fight with ambiguity, clearly specifying that hell always be present as long as life exists. But this is not tarnishing the victory of our heroes in any way. They now are liberated of their fears and can approach life with ease and happiness. Death no longer represents a fatality (as Kuja seemed to believe) but a continuity. We then find Bibi, happy to have lived all those adventures with his friends, happy to had the chance of discovering the meaning of life and friendship in the process (resulting in the beautiful final speech, just before the last theater play. He dies happy, without any concern about death. Thereby our own existential dreads disappears, because the very embodiment of these questions peacefully leave us, so should they. More or less the same can be said about Kuja and all the other heroes. Indeed, Garland had clearly specified that the fusion between Gaia and Terra was unavoidable, and it actually occurred. At the end of the game, we see the two planets merged together then explode, just before the logo apparition. Causing the destruction of all living species from both worlds and leading to the arrival of a new form of life, symbolized by the crystal just after the merging (Im not convinced about that last part though. But, as we already said, death is not a fatality for our heroes anymore, they understood that the goal of their existences is to experiment, feel, and share as much as possible. Life is a continuity of awfull and wonderfull moments, each one of them giving their significance to the others. Final Fantasy IX is an ode to life, a melody of (and for) life. One about the daily fights we all face against our ineluctable fate, an eulogy to the will to live and the meaning of existence. A mature reflexion (something some people not seem to accept due to fairy feeling it produces) on topics concerning everyone, a game potentialy reaching anyone, transcending time and space. The deep green flora seemed to quaver in unseen currents in the air, but they held tight against their captives thrashing. The piercing notes seemed to stir Taras. The cleric dug in his feet and shoved the horde backward in a surge of power. Errol darted out from behind the edge of the shieldwall. His dagger flickered twice and he leaped back behind the protection Taras offered. An Adaro soldier gurgled blood, clutching at his chest. Black bile cycled out of his gills and he crashed into the sea. Rhae grinned at him around her flute. She didn't miss a note. Another net hurtled toward them, on a collision course with Rhae's back. Errol lunged past her and caught it before it could snag the little musician, but the weight toppled him sideways. He bounced off her leg and tumbled to the concrete, grappling with the net. He rolled into a crouch next to Rashana, panting with exertion. Rashana had been sitting on the ground the entire fight, unmoving. She glanced down at him, as if realising just now that they were in danger, then unfolded to her feet. After hesitating a brief moment to take in the fight, she blurred into action. The Adaro who had captured Jarkoda tensed just before impact, but Rashana hit him like a cannonball tearing through a rotting ship hull. He splattered in all directions, his top half liquifying. Without a sound, his body went still. He crashed backward into the water, one leg still standing straight up, shorn from his torso like a Titan had cut him in two with an enormous meat cleaver. Jarkoda slammed into the concrete, scrabbling for balance. His taloned feet gouged the concrete. The seaweed around the net withered and died, dropping away with a hiss. Shaking with rage, he bit and clawed at the net. This time, it tore like yarn. Unleashed from his prison, Jarkoda bellowed a wordless warcry and launched into the air on powerful haunches. Stunted black wings unfurled from his back—too stubby for flight, but they still helped him stay aloft in a controlled glide. He soared over the barrier, plowing into the first row of Adaro. Eyes aflame, he tucked into a tight ball, pulling several Adaro to the ground with him. Flame erupted a moment later, gouting out from a volcanic epicenter. Jagged bolts of lightning stabbed out from the storm of fire. The burst of energy ripped through the remaining Adaro, scorching scales and skin off the Seafolk, a conflagration of agony that flared and then winked out, revealing the charred remains of his enemies. The few remaining Adaro fell on their knees and begged for mercy, singing gratitude as Errol yelled at them to be gone. Errol put a restraining hand on Jarkoda's arm, but he needn't have bothered. The halfdragon tottered and collapsed to one knee. Exhaustion kicked in. His eyelids fluttered; then he went limp, sliding the rest of the way to the ground in a heap.

He definitely gets cited as one of the cruelest Disney villains (or animated villains) of all time, and for good reason. I rewatched TS3 yesterday, and before hearing about Lotso, I never knew that a strawberry scented teddy bear could be so evil. I've heard that the creators of Toy Story 3 even had to maximize just how evil he really was, as some test audiences still sympathized with Lotso. To some extent, I can understand why Lotso became so cruel - he believed that his owner stopped caring about him, after seeing that she got a new Lotso toy. However, he is definitely overreacting to the situation - it was just an accident for his owner to leave him behind, and he even told Chuckles and Big Baby that their owner didn't care about them anymore. He even goes as far to tell other toys that they shouldn't have owners, and after the other toys help rescue him at the dump and trust him to rescue them as well, he simply asks "Where's your kid now, Sheriff. and runs off - very nearly leading them to burn alive. He quite reminds me of Stinky Pete the Prospector from the previous movie, but even more evil. Spoilers for "The Incredibles" Syndrome/Buddy Pine from "The Incredibles. As I said with Ernesto from earlier, he's one of the few Disney villains who ever killed someone - after all, he killed multiple superheroes as revenge since Mr. Incredible wouldn't hire him as his sidekick, and was planning to get rid of all Supers. Greed fall multiplayer. It is my opinion if thing carry on recklessly & unregulated as in a Wild West Piracy there is going to be no more windfalls but some fallen people from so called high places. Greedy one crossword clue. The episode of Deep Space 9 entitled ‘Far Beyond the Stars is commonly regarded as one of the greatest episodes of Star Trek ever made. It depicts Captain Sisko having dreams in which he is a 1950s African-American sci-fi author (Benny Russel) whose novel is rejected for publication due to it staring a black captain of a space station in the far future. We all love this episode because, despite Star Treks progressive reputation, this is the only episode which shows us racism on Earth in a realistic fashion. I love ‘Far Beyond the Stars for how it tackles racism in the 50s but I also think it has a greater, more meta, message. I think that when the preacher tells Benny that he is both the dreamer and the dream he is also talking directly to the viewer. When he calls us the dream he means that we have achieved or least made a significant amount of progress to Benny Russels dream, not the one in which we are living in space but rather the fact that now it is no longer considered ‘unrealistic that a black man would be the captain of a space station. When he calls us the dreamer he means that by watching Star Trek we are dreaming of a better future in which racism and other forms of prejudice are a long lost relic of the past. When Gene Rodenberry created the original series in the 60s he was the dreamer showing people of many different nationalities working on the bridge of the Enterprise together as equals, despite the fact many considered this unrealistic at the time. Now the vast majority of us find it almost laughable that so many in the 60s were able to accept star-ships and aliens but not a woman as the first officer of the Enterprise. The Star Treks of the 90s showed us a future in which we are now friends with our old enemies, that society has largely moved away from religion and that material wealth is no longer the standard by which we measure an individuals worth. What I am trying to say is the episode in a way is being a little self-congratulating towards Star Trek as a whole. By showing us the dream of a better future, it helped to create one! Although I dont think anyone would argue Gene Rodenberry was the most influential man with a dream in the 1960s. Is Star Trek in its current state showing us a dream of the better future? Discovery has shown us our heroes commit war crimes and the federation as a society that forces prisoners to work in dangerous conditions. Picard has shown us so far that the federation contains many xenophobic citizens and that the acquisition of money seems to still be a driving factor is some human lives. I understand that a society totally free of prejudice and greed is unrealistic, but does that really matter? Shouldnt Star Trek be showing us the better future to aspire to despite this? And finally, how is the new Star Trek pushing this dream forward? What has Discovery or Picard shown us in this dream of the future that TNG, DS9 or Voyager wouldnt have.
